PERU — The Board of Selectmen reminded residents Monday evening that a special town meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, to decide whether to put a dump truck out to bid. The meeting will be held at the Town Office.

Road Commissioner Joe Roach said the truck is a 1999 Ford F-550.

During the Aug. 17 selectmen meeting, he said he had it appraised and learned the trade-in value was $7,500, though it was retailing for “around $10,000.”

In other business Monday, the announced a public hearing will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, on the Maine Department of Transportation’s plan to replace the Androscoggin River Bridge between Peru and Mexico. In 2014, the MDOT declared the 85-year-old bridge was structurally deficient and at the end of its useful life.

The MDOT held a public hearing in June to show its final design for the new bridge.

In other business, selectmen voted to approve a building permit for resident Ed Patenaude of 185 High St. to add a living room and bedrooms to his house.
