AUBURN — The Auburn Public Library staff has announced teen events for September. Activities are for teens age 12 to 18, unless otherwise noted.

The Teen Anime Club will meet from 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, in the Androscoggin Community Room. Teens can drop in to talk about their favorite (or least favorite) manga, watch the week’s selection of anime and try their hand at drawing their own characters. Snacks will be provided.

Teens! Friday @ the Movies: “Freedom Writers” will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, in the Androscoggin Community Room. With the start of school as the theme, the movie is based on a true story and stars Hilary Swank as a young teacher named Erin Gruwell, who inspires her class of at-risk students to learn tolerance, apply themselves and pursue education beyond high school.  The program will include a snack.

Gaming Hour will take place from 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, and Friday, Sept. 25, in the Androscoggin Community Room. There will be video games and snacks.

Safe Voices will run from 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, in the Teen Space when Julia from Safe Voices will chat about relationships and work on projects.

Tweens in the Teen Space will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 16, 23 and 30, in the Teen Space. Tweens who are in sixth grade are invited to get a head start on homework, do crafts or board games or hang out.

Jill Moody of the Maine Job Corps will visit from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, in the Conference Room. Teens and new adults are invited. Moody will explain how the program works and who is eligible. Preregister by calling 207-450-0216.

Teens! DIY Takeover: Washi Tape Design will be offered from 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, in the Teen Space.The library will have notebooks, pencils and other items for decorating or bring something. The washi tape – as well as snacks – will be provided. 

Teens! Flashback Friday will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, in the Teen Space. There will be some favorite childhood activities, including Play Doh, puzzles and Candyland.

A new program, Teens! Snack Chat will take place from 3 to 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21, in the Teen Space. There will be a healthy after-school snack and conversation about current events.

DIY Teens! Media Club is held from 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, in the CREATE! Media Lab. Make music, movie trailers and more that staff will post on the website.

From 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, visit with Molly from Sexual Assault Prevention & Response Services in the Teen Space. She will discuss and create awareness of teen issues like healthy relationships, sexual assault, bullying, harassment, substance use/abuse, and internet safety.

Banned Books Week – “Celebrate the Freedom to Read!” – will be held Sept. 27 to Oct. 3. There will be displays and activities all week.

Coming up, College Night 2015 will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15 in the Androscoggin Community Room when admissions representatives from eight colleges and universities will sit on a panel facilitated by College

for Maine Androscoggin.
