Season outlook: Mt. Blue has a string core of players returning and expects to be among the contenders in the KVAC this season. The traditional powers at Skowhegan and Messalonskee will be a tough pair of teams to overcome, but the Cougars are hoping they can be within striking distance. Three solid players from a year ago are missing, but Mt. Blue has a deep junior class back and a few seniors with leadership and varsity experience. A big piece of the team’s success will depend on how its young goalies — a sophomore and a freshman — handle playing at the varsity level. A strong defense and solid transition through the midfield will be important.
