VFW to host barbecue

JAY — VFW Post 3335, Jewell Street, will host a community barbecue from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4.

The meal will include a half-chicken, pasta salad, cookies and chips. The cost is $8.

Drop-in Sing Together cancels meeting

FARMINGTON — The Drop-in Sing Together has announced it will not meet Labor Day, Sept. 7.

Learn about prostate cancer in discussion

NORWAY — Stephens Memorial Hospital will offer Learn about Prostate Cancer from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, at the Harper Conference Center in the Ripley Medical Office Building.

Graham T. VerLee, MD, of Maine Medical Partners Urology, will lead a discussion about prostate cancer and current treatment options.

Club to offer free dance lessons

PARIS — Swingin’ Bears Square Dance Club has announced it will begin its 52nd year of square dancing and offer three free lessons for beginners from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. on the following Wednesdays, Sept. 9, 16 and 23. Lessons will be held at the Oxford Hills Middle School.

Singles, couples, families and those looking for a refresher are welcome to attend. Ray Hilton of Saco, club caller, will teach the lessons.

The club will also offer workshops for other levels of experience from 7:45 to 9 p.m. The cost for these workshops will be $4 a person for each lesson.

Lobster dinner for seniors

PERU — The Rumford Senior Center will have a lobster and steamed clam dinner with salads and desserts at 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, at the old Peru School, Main Street. Baked chicken breast will also be available. There will also be surprise entertainment.

Cost for the lobster dinner is $25; $15 for the chicken dinner. Tickets are on sale until Sept. 10 only, to be picked up at the Peru Senior Center. Sign up early.
