A quarter of an acre of gladioli in bloom is not a common sight but George W. Horne or Lewiston and Willard A. Noyes of Auburn have made it possible for everyone in the two cities to see such a garden. For the remainder of this week these home gardeners will be at their gladioli farm at the end of Vale street, back of Nichols street, Lewiston, where all are cordially invited to inspect the wonderful crop of vari-colored spiked blossoms. Well arranged rows make it convenient for visitors to pass along the avenues and see the 88 varieties of this one flower which this season is so prolifically bearing.

Post time is 8 o’clock. The horses will run September 11.

The future of a regional transportation system remained in doubt Thursday after a funding panel delayed action on an appeal brought by Western Maine Transportation Services. The Lewiston-Auburn Comprehensive Transit Study’s Technical Committee held off a decision until Sept. 20. The appeal sought the return of $90,500 cut in July from WMTS in a decision which will take effect Oct. 1. WMTS General Manager Eugene R. Skibitsky said because of the cut in funding, he had recommended that his board of directors eliminate bus service from outlying towns into Lewiston and Auburn and restrict rides to those on Medicaid or receiving aid from state human service agencies.
