Someone in Lewiston or Auburn will be presented a five-dollar bill, Sunday afternoon and Monday morning, that is if his or her eyes are bright enough to pick out Miss Alice Kennedy of the Lewiston Players. Miss Kennedy will arrive in Lewiston Sunday afternoon and between the hours of two and four o’clock will be somewhere between the theater and the North Bridge. Those who expect to be reimbursed must carry a copy Friday evening’s copy of the Lewiston Journal and one or more reserved seat tickets for any performance at the theatre next week.

A routine motor vehicle traffic violation which was investigated by Lewiston police earlier today, resulted in another charge in District Eight Court today, one alleging the larceny of a drive-in type speaker. A resident of Lisbon Center, who was picked up by Officer Laurent E. Veilleux on a charge of operating an unregistered motor vehicle earlier today, was later charged with larceny after the speaker, valued at $12, was discovered in the man’s car. “The larceny of drive-in speakers is apparently a common practice of many persons who frequent such entertainment centers,” said Det. Sgt. Robert E Cloutier, who reported that all of the drive-in theaters in this area have suffered many losses of speakers. Renald Belanger, manager of the Lisbon Drive-in, where the theft occurred, told the Journal that he had lost over 60 speakers this season.

Citizens in a rural section of Durham are crying foul both literally and legally this week in the wake of sludge spreading on a farm there by the Lewiston-Auburn Water Pollution Control Authority. Approximately 10 citizens called the town office to complain of a bad odor after about 250 tons of sludge were spread Monday. Margaret Wentworth, chairwoman of the Board of Selectmen, said the spreading appears to have resulted from a misunderstanding for which no particular person is responsible. She said fines could be levied, but “We can’t really insist that they unspread the stuff.”
The material in Looking Back is reproduced exactly as it originally appeared, although misspellings and errors made at that time may be edited.
