1921 – 2015
AUBURN — Yvonne Gallant, 94, of Auburn and formerly of Cassell Street in Lewiston, died Sunday morning, Sept. 6, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin, following a short illness.
She was born in New Brunswick, Canada, on Jan. 21, 1921, the daughter of the late Daniel and Emelie (Robichaud) Richard, and had been a resident of this community since 1954.
She had married Elie U. Gallant on Aug. 24, 1943; he died on Jan. 21, 1999.
She was employed at the Bates Mill as an inspector for many years until her retirement in 1983.
Yvonne enjoyed playing bingo and making jigsaw puzzles.
She was a parishioner and a Eucharistic Minister at Holy Cross Church. Both Yvonne and Elie had been very active within the church throughout the years. She was also a member of the Lewiston and Holy Cross Senior Citizens.
She is survived by one daughter, Rose Mai Dumont and her husband, Ronald, of Durham; two sons, Bernard “Ben” Gallant and his wife, Pauline, of Winthrop and Jean Paul Gallant and his wife, Sue, of Lewiston; nine grandchildren, Lori Robertson and her husband, Jeffrey, of Pennsylvania, Lisa Johnson and her husband, Vance, of Monmouth, Frank Dumont and his wife, Kat, of Massachusetts, Nicole Pullen and her husband, Matthew, of Bowdoin, Corey Gallant of Portland, Joshua Gallant and his wife, Chrissy, of Tampa, Fla., Amy Gallant of Lewiston, John St. Laurent and his wife, Katie, of Buckfield and Jesse St. Laurent and his wife, Stephanie, of Auburn; fifteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Jean Guy Gallant, who died in 1975; and by four sisters.
