LIVERMORE FALLS — A Sabattus man is accused of beating his ex-girlfriend’s boyfriend Tuesday night, threatening him with a rifle and assaulting her, Police Chief Ernest Steward Jr. said Wednesday.

The male victim was taken to a Farmington hospital by ambulance, Steward said.

Andrew Breton, 21, was arrested on charges of felony burglary and misdemeanor domestic violence assault, assault, criminal threatening and criminal trespass, Steward said.

A conviction on the burglary charge carries up to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

Police got a call at 9:36 p.m. of people screaming and running down Church Street, also known as Route 133. As Livermore Falls officer Devon Bohacik headed to the area, a report of a domestic violence assault on Munsey Avenue was received by police. Bohacik went to Munsey Avenue and found people returning to the home and the assailant gone, Steward said.

Both victims identified Breton as the assailant, the chief said.

According to Bohacik’s report, Breton entered the home of his ex-girlfriend and started beating her boyfriend. Breton threatened him with a rifle he had grabbed at the house. The gun had a loaded clip in it but there was no bullet in the chamber, Steward said.

The woman tried to distract Breton so her boyfriend could get away, but Breton hit her, grabbed her by the throat and placed her against a wall, Steward said.

The boyfriend tried to leave the house several times, but Breton stopped him until finally the woman cornered Breton.

Androscoggin County Deputy Sgt. Timothy Kachnovich assisted Bohacik at the scene.

Breton was found later in Sabattus and arrested at about 10:20 p.m. Tuesday by police there. He was brought to the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn where he is being held on $5,000 cash bail on Wednesday morning.
