LEWISTON — Shirley “Shirl” C. Willey, 81, of Lewiston passed away on Saturday, Sept. 5, at Central Maine Medical Center with his wife by his side.

He was born in Mechanic Falls, the son of Elise and Charles Willey and attended local Norway schools before going into the U.S. Marines. He married his wife, Althea Smith, on Feb. 15, 1958, and together, they raised their three daughters.

After leaving the Marines, he worked briefly at W.S. Libby Co. and was part owner of Central Maintenance. He was the proud owner of his own businesses, Shirl’s Cleaning Service and Movieland Video in Mechanic Falls, where his wife worked with him, side by side. During his years, he also worked at the Mechanic Falls and Poland transfer stations.

Shirl was a man with a dry sense of humor, but most of all, he was a good husband, father and grampy. He loved his cat, June, and to play jokes on people, trains, fishing, camping, boating and John Wayne.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Althea; his daughters, Paula Collins and husband, Fred, Beverly Willey, Julie Martel and husband, David, all of Lewiston; four grandchildren, Freddie, Brandon, Quinton and Josh; and six great-grandchildren.
