BUCKSPORT — Town officials in Bucksport are expected to discuss whether they intend to impose more conditions on a company that plans to demolish the former Verso Paper mill.

The Maine Department of Environmental Protection issued the demolition permit last week to American Iron & Metal. Another state permit for wastewater discharge is also required.

Town Manager Sue Lessard said the town also must issue its own permit, and that there could be additional conditions. The Town Council was to discuss the matter on Thursday.

According to the DEP permit, the demolition project is expected to cost nearly $4.5 million and to generate approximately 14,000 cubic yards of debris.
