DIXFIELD — Dozens of students and their parents visited Dirigo Elementary School on Thursday evening for the annual open house and community fair.

Dirigo Elementary School began inviting community organizations and residents to set up a community fair at their annual open house in an effort to teach students and their parents more about them.

Swan said that parents have “come to expect the community fair” every year, and use it as an opportunity to sign their kids up for different organizations.

Students and parents poured into the school 10 minutes before the open house officially began, visiting classrooms and learning about community organizations in the school gymnasium.

Represented among the tables set up at the community fair were the River Valley Healthy Communities Coalition, Safe Voices, Dirigo Youth Wrestling, Maine Warden Service, Oxford County Sheriff’s Office, the Dixfield Police Department, the Peru Community Center and a display of Peru resident Mary Pulsifer’s Fairy Walk on Worthley Pond.
