The Open Book Players, a readers’ theatre performance group, will present their bi-annual “Reading Rumpus” event on Saturday, Sept. 19, at 7:30 p.m. at Johnson Hall in Gardiner. This event features the works of several Maine children’s book authors and illustrators, their stories adapted and presented as theatrical works. This year’s program will include “Hot Rod Hamster” and a chapter from “A Handful of Stars” by Cynthia Lord; “Growing Up Pedro” by Matt Tavares, as well as “Jubilee illustrated” by Tavares but written by Alicia Potter; “Randy Riley’s Really Big Hit” and “King Hugo’s Huge Ego” by Chris Van Dusen; “Merry Moosey Christmas” by Lynn Plourde and illustrated by Russ Cox, as well as “Pigs in the Mud in the Middle of the Rud,” also written by Plourde; and “Faraway Friends” by Russ Cox. These award-winning authors and illustrators will attend the performance and will be available to autography their books which may be purchased on site before and after the show.
