Lawrence Williams

1923-2015

Lawrence Williams, age 91, formerly of Wilton, died Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015 at home in Rockport. Lawrence was born Oct. 1, 1923 in Farmington, a son of Dearborn and Gladys (Eaton) Williams. He received his education in local schools.

Mr. Williams was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II and participated in the Battle of the Bulge where he was severely wounded and subsequently earned the Purple Heart. After six months in the hospital, he came home to marry Shirley Perkins. They enjoyed taking their grandchildren camping and spending their winters in Spring Hill, FL. She died in 2002.

He was employed at both International Paper Co. and the Otis Mill for many years and was active in the Wilton American Legion, serving in various offices for many years and served as Commander for two years. He enjoyed weekly poker and pool games there until his late 70’s.

Mr. Williams will be remembered as being a handy-man, having fixed his children’s vehicles and making any project that his wife wanted for Girls State. He enjoyed taking walks, hunting and fishing, and spending Thanksgiving with relatives. He also was a former member and Deacon of the Wilton Congregational Church.

He is survived by his daughter, Brenda King of Warren; grandchildren, Kristin and her partner Ken; Tory and his wife, Caitlin, and Nicole and her husband Alan; great grandchildren, Mara and Mae Dostie, Skyla, Natalie, and Paxton King. Many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his 10 siblings, Thelma Amburg, Lucille Lingard, Evelyn Ouellette, Lillian Burhoe, Donald, Theldon, Merle, Clifton, Raymond, and Robert Williams; and a son, Clifton in 2010.

Williams – died at Rockport, Maine, Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015, Lawrence Williams, 91, formerly of Wilton. Robert H. Allard

1945-2015

Robert H. Allard, 69, of Carrabassett Valley, died Aug. 20, 2015, from natural causes while hunting in the Wrangell Mountains in Alaska with his son, Matt.

Robert was born Oct. 17, 1945 in Lewiston, ME to Henry and Yvette (Brillant) Allard. Bob attended Lewiston schools and served in the US Navy from 1963-1966.

In 1968, Bob worked for Chicago Bridge & Iron and he became a member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers. By trade, Bob was a welder and in 1969 he joined the International Union of Iron Workers, Local 496, Portland, ME.

He married Sally Fontaine from Rumford in 1974 and they moved to So. China, ME where they raised their family.

In 1981, Bob joined the Boilermakers Local 29 in Boston and worked through the Brotherhood on jobs throughout the US and Internationally.

Bob retired in 2001, living six months in Thorne Bay, AK and six months in Carrabassett Valley, ME. Bob loved his family and lived an adventurous life of hunting, fishing and traveling.

He is survived by his wife, Sally Allard of Carrabassett Valley; two sons, Matthew Allard, and Zachary Allard and his wife, Jacinth (Richardson); a grandson, Mason Allard; as well as two niece’s, Bonnie Hill and Dawn Maitland, both from Lynn, Mass. ALLARD — died, in Alaska, Aug. 20, 2015, Robert Allard, 69, of Carrabassett Valley. Stephen L. Lancaster

2015

Stephen L. Lancaster, 72, of Farmington, passed away on Monday Sept. 7 at the Hospice House in Auburn after a strong battle with liver cancer. His devoted wife Julie, daughter Bethany and nephew Jerry were by his side. He is now in the comfort of the Lord.

He was born in Gardner, Maine to Leo and Irene Lancaster. He graduated from Livermore Falls HS in 1960 and went to St. Mary’s College in Halifax, Nova Scotia on a football scholarship.

His true love for baseball followed him through adulthood breaking many records along the way while playing in the Pine Tree League.

In 1964 he was spotted by a Philadelphia Phillies scout and signed with their single A minor league organization in Spartanburg, SC. After one season with the Phillies he was drafted in the Army leaving his minor league career behind to proudly serve his country. His talent was once again made known to an Army general in Germany so he continued playing baseball for the Army National Team. In 2008 Steve was inducted into the Maine Baseball Hall of Fame.

Steve’s other interest was the Maine Harness Racing Association; owning, training, and occasionally driving. Steve’s knowledge for breeding bloodlines was so extensive he always had a request to do a “research” for someone. His horse racing family meant a lot to him with the Cushing Stables being his favorite coffee spot in the morning.

He leaves behind his wife “Julie Anne”; son Stephen with his “very own daughter in law” Carrie and their daughters Rowan and Sloan; daughter Bethany and grandson Matthew Lancaster; son John Korhonen, wife Amy and their daughter Madison; daughter Kristen Ockenfels; brothers Dana and Al and sisters Patricia, Catherine, Marie, and Michele. LANCASTER — died, at Auburn, Aug. 7, 2015, Stephen L. Lancaster, 72, of Farmington. A funeral service will be held Saturday at the East Wilton Union Church at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Robbie Locke officiating. Following the service a social gathering will be held at the church from 2:30-3 p.m. Steve will continue his competitive spirit and love for harness racing by being buried across the street from the Farmington Racetrack at Fairview Cemetery, perfectly aligned with the finish line. Committal service will be at Fairview Cemetery at 3:30 p.m. in Farmington. Leo O. Levasseur

1933-2015

Leo O. Levasseur, 81, of Riley, Maine, died Monday, Sept. 7, 2015 at Sandy River Center in Farmington, surrounded by his loving family.

Leo was born on Nov. 20, 1933, a son of Henry and Pheobe (Dumont) Levasseur.

Leo was well known and loved by many. He had many jobs including driving trailor trucks while his children grew up and later held many side jobs including painting houses and working for the fair association at King and Queens French Fries. In his free time, Leo enjoyed spending time with his beloved dog, Steph and kept busy at his home working on small wood and sculpture projects. One of his favorite pieces is a miniature church made of marbles and concrete. He was a member of the Farmington Elks Lodge.

He is survived by his children, Lori Levasseur and her companion, Tom Meader of Wilton, Sonya St. Louis and her husband Ken of Athol, Mass., Tom Levasseur of Bangor, Jason Rich and his companion Donna O’Dougherty of Boscawen, NH; grandchildren, Amy Levasseur of Farmington, Ashley Levasseur and her companion Cris Barney of Wilton, Ryan St. Pierre and his companion Tyler Leskowsky of Kennebunk, and Roland Brown and his companion Janessa Stevens of Temple; siblings, Constance Begin of Sabattus, and Pauline Leblanc of Lewiston; great grandchildren Kalyb, Kadyn, Kyle, and Karder of Wilton, and Staci and Sadie Lee of Farmington; and Leo’s long time companion, Gertrude Dalton of Riley, ME and her five children.

He was predeceased by his parents, and his siblings, Ernest, Roland, Phillip, Robert, Edmund, and Jannett Fortier.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Sandy River Center, including Lori, Bri, and Serena, as well as Androscoggin Home Health and a special caretaker, Vanessa. Wilder H. Bailey

1926-2015

Wilder H. Bailey, 88, a resident of Livermore Falls, passed away, Wednesday, Sept. 9th at his home, surrounded by his family, following a brief illness.

He was born Oct. 22, 1926 in Dover-Foxcroft, the son of Frank Alonzo Bailey and Celeste Marie (Hayford) Bailey. He attended school at Dover-Foxcroft High School, leaving to join the U.S. Navy, and later receiving his diploma through Winthrop High School.

Wilder proudly served in the Pacific Theatre, during WWII. He worked his entire working career at Globe Albany/Tex-Tech in North Monmouth, and reluctantly retiring at age 73. On Dec. 31, 1984 in Dover-Foxcroft, he married Ruth Ann Gray, enjoying 30 years of marriage.

He was a member of the Winthrop American Legion Post 40. He enjoyed hunting and fishing but especially loved time spent with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann Bailey of Livermore Falls; children, Nancy Bailey of Florida; Peg McAllister and her husband Mike of New Jersey; Beth Parker and her husband Marvin and Becky Allaire and her husband Scott all of Maine; Bud Furbush and his wife Amy of Massachusetts; Bill Furbush and his wife Dana of New Hampshire, 14 grandchildren, Ryan, Allison, Gavin, Jessica, Sara, Cassi-Mae, Josh, Alex, Danielle, Savannah, Zachary, Moran, Willa and Wilder, seven great-grandchildren, Morgan, Madelyn, Kiley, Maverick, Millie, Bailey and Chloe and and his best friend and cousin, Joe Lunt of Dover-Foxcroft.
