LEWISTON — Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice has announced upcoming training sessions for hospice and general volunteers.
Volunteer opportunities include visiting patients on home care or hospice services, providing respite for caregivers, bereavement support and facilitating grief groups, Hospice House greeters, patient support and kitchen work, grocery shopping and medication pick-up, transportation and office work. Volunteers specializing in complementary therapies such as pet therapy, Reiki, massage, music and art are also welcome.
Training for hospice volunteers at the Lewiston office will include 20 hours of training on Wednesdays and Fridays. Training takes place at 15 Strawberry Ave. on the following dates:
Sept. 23: 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Sept. 25 and 30: 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Oct. 2 and 7: 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Oct. 9: 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Hospice training will focus on how to provide companionship and support to terminally-ill patients and their families. Training will also cover topics on family dynamics, disease process and spirituality.
Training for hospice volunteers at the Manchester office will include 20 hours of training on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Training takes place at 15 Range Way, Suite 2, on the following dates:
Oct. 13: 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Oct. 15, 20, 22 and 27: 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Oct. 29: 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Six hours of general volunteer training will be offered on the following dates:
Sept. 28: 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (Lewiston office)
Oct. 1: 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (Manchester office)
Oct. 14: 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (Bridgton Hospital)
Oct. 16: 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (Wilton office)
Oct. 23: 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (Lewiston office)
Oct. 26: 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (Norway office)
