MECHANIC FALLS — The Mechanic Falls Historical Society met recently and has decided to incorporate a major change in its meeting schedule.

With hopes of attracting more members to the society, the meeting day and time for the society’s monthly meeting has been changed to the third Sunday of each month at 2 o’clock in the afternoon. Meetings will be held downstairs at the Mechanic Falls Historical Society, 64 Elm St.

September’s meeting is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 20.

A community supper sponsored by both the Mechanic Falls and Minot Historical Societies is slated for 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3.  The menu for this supper will feature ham, beans, cole slaw and pot luck casseroles with choice homemade desserts. The cost will be $8 for adults and $4 for children 12 and younger. The supper will be held downstairs in the Community Hall of the Mechanic Falls Historical Society.

Susan and Richard Barry donated two Mechanic Falls High School basketball trophies from 1957 and 1958 to the society. The 1957 trophy heralded the school winning the Sun-Journal Basketball League. Players inscribed on the trophy: Coach Fred Rogers, Capt. Ken Roberts, Richard Barry, Howard Asby, Arthur Cotton, Rodney Sargent, Gregory Curtis, James Maher, Jerome Ayers, Roger Sargent, Roger Arris and Rodney Bisbee. The 1958 trophy marked Mechanic Falls winning the Western Maine League with Fred Coffin, coach. Players: R. Barry, H. Asby, A. Cotton, R. Arris, J. Maher, R. Sargent, C. Lenahan, R. Chase, F. Chapman, and B. Caler.

Both trophies will be available for viewing at the September meeting as well as at the community supper.
