Sports medicine discussions at fair

FARMINGTON — Dr. Thomas Pulling, a provider at Franklin Health Orthopaedics, will be on board the Healthy Community Coalition’s mobile health unit at the Farmington Fair from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, to answer any sports medicine questions, including information on concussions.

Pulling is board-certified in family medicine and completed a fellowship in sports medicine at Maine Medical Center. Pulling’s professional interest is in sport and athletic medicine, and he has served as team physician at high school, collegiate, and professional levels including the University of Southern Maine and the Portland Pirates.

He Pulling is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine, the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, and is a member and instructor for the National Ski Patrol.

Crafting for a Cause Sept. 26

MEXICO — Mexico is calling all paper crafters, scrapbookers, knitters, people who sew, jewelers and anyone who loves to craft for Crafting for a Cause, a fundraiser to benefit the GRAMPA Food Pantry.

The event is set from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Mexico Town Hall, Calvin Lyons Meeting Hall. The fee is $10 or 10 non-perishable food items. 

Participants should bring a bag lunch, and snacks will be provided. There will be mini crafters Chinese auction, raffle and game. SO come, bring a friend.

Post 777 hosting supper

PARIS — The AMVETS Post No. 777 will host a public smorgasbord supper with casseroles and more from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26, at the VFW Post No. 9787, 58 Lower St.

Cost of the meal is $8 for adults, $4 for children 12 and younger.

Kawanhee Inn hosting benefit buffet

WELD — The Kawanhee Inn will host a “Ring of Fire Dinner & Dance” buffet fundraiser for the Weld Volunteer Fire Department and first responders on Saturday, Sept. 26.

The buffet will have two sittings, one at 5:30 p.m. and one at 6:30.

Attendees are encouraged to come dressed like Johnny Cash in all black or like a ring of fire in orange, red or yellow.

The Welders, consisting of Maine professional musicians from other local bands, will provide music.

Tickets cost $25 per person and must be purchased in advance. Tickets are available at the Kawanhee Inn, the Weld Town Office, Skoolhouse Variety and Weld General Store.

Rumford Library hosting Thursday Poetry

RUMFORD — Rumford Library will begin its season of Thursday Poetry at the Rumford Library from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26.

Poetry lovers can meet and share their own work or their favorite poet’s work. As the first meeting of the fall season, planning will be done at this meeting.

Poet Laureate Wesley McNair will return for October’s gathering. Refreshments will be served. The event is free and open to the public.

Bethel holding CROP walk

BETHEL — Communities Respond to Overcome Poverty will host a 5K walk around Bethel Village at noon on Sunday, Sept. 27, beginning at the West Paris Congregational.

Walkers are invited for a potluck lunch at 11:30 a.m. at the church.

Twenty-five percent of the funds go to the Bethel Food Pantry.

This year the Bethel area and nearly 2,000 cities and towns nationwide are joining together in interfaith community CROP Hunger Walks around the theme “Ending Hunger One Step at a Time.” Many of the CROP walkers will be wearing CROP Walk T-shirts, proclaiming their solidarity with the millions of people around the world who have to walk to live.

Pinpoint of Light meeting

HARTFORD — “What happens when we die?” will be the topic at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 27, at the Pinpoint of Light Spiritualist Camp, Hartford Town Hall, 1190 Main St., Hartford. Laura Lee Perkins, CM, will be the leader.

Perkins has been a lifelong spiritual messenger and educator. She is a certified medium through the National Spiritualist Association of Churches. This class explores the death process: where souls go and options for growth and renewal. Persons of all spiritual paths welcome. Open donation.
