RANGELEY — The Rangeley Oktoberfest Weekend activities range from a Brat & Strudel contest to stein hoisting competitions to the Maine Forestry Museum’s 22nd Annual Apple Festival.

Rangeley Oktoberfest weekend kicks off with the annual Brat & Strudel contest on Thursday, Oct. 1, sponsored by the Rangeley Lakes Chamber of Commerce. It will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at The Rangeley Inn. A fee of $10 entitles each visitor to a free commemorative Rangeley Oktoberfest mug and tastings of all brat and strudel entries. Winners will earn bragging rights based on voting by both the public and a panel of expert judges.

Brat and strudel entrants confirmed at press time include the following: 45th Parallel, Forks in the Air, Inner Eye, Moose Alley, Rangeley IGA, The Rangeley Tavern, Saddleback Maine, Sarge’s, The Shed.

The schedule of events includes:

• Thursday, Oct. 1, 6 p.m. — Stein Hoisting Semifinals, Rangeley Inn & Tavern, 2443 Main St.

• Friday, Oct. 2, Stein Hoisting Semifinals; 5:30 p.m., 45th Parallel, 2303 Main St.; 6:30 p.m., Tall Tales Tavern, 17 Rumford Rd., Oquossoc; 7:30 p.m., Moose Alley, 2809 Main St.; 8:30 p.m., Sarge’s, 2454 Main St. DJ Mad King Entertainment at Sarge’s; 9 p.m., Sharon Hood Dixon Road, Moose Alley, 2809 Main St.

All visitors are encouraged to pick up a copy of the Oktoberfest brochure at any of the local participating businesses and get brochures stamped at participating businesses. Stamped brochures must be dropped off at the Rangeley Lakes Chamber of Commerce by noon Oct. 4 to qualify for the drawing to win prizes.
