ROXBURY — The Board of Selectmen unanimously voted Tuesday evening to award a $9,000 contract for winter road sand to Steve Swasey of Andover.
Swasey, owner of Swasey Excavation, submitted the lowest bid of three submitted. The others were: Poland Corp. in West Paris with 1,000 yards of sand at $12.50 per yard; and R.A. Tibbetts Logging and Trucking in Wilton for 1,000 yards of sand at $10 per yard.
“If I remember correctly, we went with (Swasey) last year and the sand was very good,” Selectman John Sutton said. “We had no complaints at all.”
Selectman Tim Derouche said the town has gone with Swasey for “the last three years,” and “every year, he does a great job with the sand.”
In other business, Derouche said that Bruce Manzer Inc. hopes to begin paving the Town Office parking lot before the middle of October.
Selectmen voted Aug. 25 to approve a $49,545 bid to pave the parking lot.
“He still has to figure out exactly what day he’s going to come by, but he said it would be around that time,” Derouche said. “He also said he’d contact the Roxbury Fire Department about making sure their trucks can get in and out of the lot.”
