FARMINGTON — A man from Strong was arrested Thursday on a charge of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old, police said.

Richard Chabot Jr., 47, was arrested Thursday after failing a polygraph test and confessing to Lt. David St. Laurent of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, Sheriff Scott Nichols Sr. said.

The charge of gross sexual assault is a Class A crime that carries a maximum sentence of up to 30 years in prison.

The arrest followed an investigation started Aug. 24 that included interviews with witnesses and the polygraph test given by Detective Jennifer King of the Maine State Police, Nichols said.

Chabot is being held at the Franklin County Detention Center on $20,000 cash bail, Nichols said.
