LEWISTON — L/A’s Franco Center is hosting its next session of “French for Teens” classes, beginning Tuesday, Oct. 6.
The twice-a-month get-together will consist in a two-hour session running from 6 to 8 p.m., with the first hour dedicated to fun activities and the second to more academic subjects, including DELF preparation.
Classes will be held every other week except on holidays or vacation weeks, until Tuesday, Dec. 1. A full schedule of classes is available by contacting The Franco Center.
The intention is to provide activities in French that give participants an opportunity to get to know the basics of the language and/or to practice what they already know while giving them a taste of local Franco-American and other French-speaking cultures.
The internationally recognized French Heritage Language Program curriculum is used as a support for the class. The academic support for the DELF preparation, a language-level diploma recognized worldwide, is provided by the CIEP, a key public operator under the auspices of the French Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Research.
The course is be taught by Jacynthe Jacques, a native of Quebec who has lived in the Lewiston area for the past 20 years.
The Franco Center is able to provide this program free of charge through a grant from the French American Cultural Exchange’s French Heritage Language Program in New York.
The Franco Center also offers Adult Reacquisition classes on Mondays. It is not too late to join the current session, which has just gotten underway at the Center. Fun in French for children ages 4 to 12 runs Saturday mornings, as well as other after-school programs in partnership with community organizations.
