Mystery Photo for September 27, 2015

Several people who correctly called to identify the dog sculpture in last week’s mystery photo also noted that they recognized the photographer’s 11-year-old English Lab, Allie, in the foreground. The larger-than-life bronze statue is on the campus of Bates College, where many entrants said they walk their dog. The bronze sculpture was a gift to the college in memory of a former student by his parents. In a random drawing, Jan Bunford of Lewiston was chosen as the winner of a $10 Subway gift card. With his entry, he wrote, “I love to walk Bates College, sometimes with my little dog. We like to visit the beagle statue on campus, and I think the family really honored their son’s memory by contributing such a unique, beautiful work of art. In this way it honors his love of his faithful companion. And, in a way, it is a cool statue for all of us who love dogs.”
