Eight women, members of the Park street Methodist Church, Lewiston, — the church attended by Sheriff Davis — on Monday afternoon made a tour of Lewiston bar rooms for the purpose of investigating conditions in this city. The result of the tour was a sentiment of disgust upon the part of all, and the confirmation of stories which have appeared from time to time the past eight months in the press of the city and to conditions here. Mayor Brann, when asked by a Lewiston Journal reporter Tuesday, what he thought of the visit by the Park street Methodist women to the bar rooms, replied that he didn’t care to discuss the situation. “Oh, it looks threatening,” replied the mayor, as he looked out of the window towards the sky.

If Candace Walworth could have one wish come true, Lewiston would have its own symphony orchestra. Because she’s a realist, Walworth understands the need to plan the growth of artistic appreciation in the city. For this reason, Walworth is one of a dozen people who serve on the newly-formed Lewiston Arts Commission to assess the needs and wants of the community. The commission, formed by Mayor James P. Howaniec, is comprised of interested individuals, and representatives from groups such as LA Arts, who want to see the city improve its cultural activities.
