In his weekly column in the Twin City Times, Macdonald called for the Legislature to consider a bill that would require a website listing names of people on welfare, their addresses, the length of time they’d spent on welfare and the types of benefits they received.
That information is shielded from the public under current law.
No legislator has sponsored Macdonald’s welfare bill.
Macdonald told Tucker Carlson of Fox News that it wasn’t fair that welfare recipients were protected but a public website listed state pension recipients.
Macdonald also said:
* He was frustrated that the Legislature has ignored his calls for welfare reform.
* Somali immigrants were not receiving welfare and causing the problem he wants to address, according to Macdonald. Welfare was attracting “domestic” people.
* Macdonald said special education programs were attracting people.
