PARIS — The McLaughlin Garden and Homestead is planning its fall events.
The Third Annual Jack-0-Lantern Spectacular will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 23 and 24. Hundreds of carved pumpkins will line garden paths. Area students and garden volunteers will prepare the seasonal display. Those bringing carved pumpkins in advance will receive discounted admission. The ticket price is $5 per person, and free for children younger than 2. The charge includes cider and popcorn.
Volunteers will gather to assist the horticultural director in “putting the garden to bed” at 9 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6. All are welcome to participate with many different tasks; there will be a job for everyone. Lunch will be provided.
The garden will sponsor a horticultural tour of Boston’s Isabella Stewart Gardner museum. The bus trip, planned for Thursday, Nov. 12, will include the Venetian-inspired courtyard garden, the museum’s greenhouses, and a special discussion with the horticulturalist about the interaction between art and gardens in the museum. There will be free time to explore the treasures of the museum. The tour includes bus coach travel, snacks, the horticultural presentation and admission to the museum. The cost of the trip is $70 for McLaughlin Garden members and $80 for nonmembers. The bus will depart from Oxford at 7:15 a.m. with stops for pick-ups in Grey and Kennebunk and will depart Boston at 3:30 p.m. Please call the garden or stop by the Garden Gift Shop, open noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday, to purchase tickets.
The garden remains open and free of charge through Saturday, Oct. 31, with fall blooming flowers and berries and changing leaves on shrubs and trees. It is open daily from dawn until dusk at 97 South Main St.
