PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — A rally in support of Planned Parenthood has brought about 350 supporters to downtown Portland in a scene that also included a handful of counter-demonstrators, anti-circumcision advocates and topless feminists.

The event is one of dozens scheduled nationwide in support of Planned Parenthood and it took place Tuesday in the city’s Monument Square. The anti-circumcision group Bloodstained Men & Their Friends was holding a demonstration across the street that members said wasn’t related.

National Republicans are pushing to strip Planned Parenthood’s federal funding after a series of surreptitiously recorded videos. Republican presidential candidates are also condemning Planned Parenthood for its work providing fetal tissue.

Demonstrators at the Portland rally shared stories about services they have received from Planned Parenthood over the years. Speakers stressed the need for affordable health care.
