1928 – 2015
FARMINGTON — Barbara J. Jones, 87, of Rangeley passed away at Sandy River Center HealthCare facility in Farmington on Sunday, Sept. 27.
She was born May 9, 1928, in Winthrop, the daughter of George and Josephine Cressey. She was a graduate of Winthrop High School. Barbara married Frederick Jones in 1946. She worked her way through night classes to become a legal secretary in Rhode Island.
Barbara and Frederick moved to Maine in 1960, settling in to Rangeley and living there for over 55 years. She worked for Robert J. Beal P.A. for 44 of those years. She was very involved with town affairs, holding many offices, including selectman and a member of the school board and Planning Board, to name a few. She received the Rangeley Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce Community Service Award in 1984. Barbara was very active in the Democratic party and politics.
Barbara is survived by her son, Richard Jones of Rangeley; three grandchildren, Terence, Robert and Shannon; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her best friend, Maxine Seargent.
She was predeceased by her husband, Frederick, in 1992; her son, Robert, in 2001; her stepdaughter, Beverly; and two sisters, Mabel and Dorothy.
