Seniors hold fair, flea market

AUBURN — The First Auburn Seniors’ annual fall fair and flea market will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at Hasty Community Center. 

The fair will include tables for scarves, purses, jewelry, baked goods, candy, books, games and  white elephant items.

Tables are available to rent for $10 each by calling the Auburn Recreation Department, 207-333-6601 ext. 210.

Table Renters will set-up  from 12 to 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, and will have access to their tables at 8 a.m. on the day of the sale. 

Concessions will be available with donuts and coffee for purchase in the morning, and hot dogs, chips and bottled water for lunch.

Murphy Homes hosting ticket raffle

AUBURN — John F. Murphy Homes will hold a ticket raffle to benefit the JFM Life Center and Navigator programs Sunday, Oct. 4, at the Auburn Recreation Department, 48 Pettengill Park St. The doors will open at noon, drawing will be at 2 p.m. Attendance is required to win.

There will be more than 300 prizes donated by area businesses, including gift cards, tickets and merchandise. Among the big ticket items are tickets to a Disney theme park, a hot air balloon ride and white water rafting trip.

Bowl with the Blind Oct. 4

LEWISTON — The National Federation of the Blind of Maine will host Bowl with the Blind from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, at Sparetime Recreation, 24 Mollison Way.

Individuals are asked to raise a minimum of $25. A team of four needs to raise a minimum of $100. Cost includes two games of bowling and shoe rentals.

There will be door prizes, a 50/50 raffle and lunch specials.

The fundraiser will support programs for the blind in Maine such as the parents and student divisions and help affiliate members to attend national conventions and Washington seminars, a seminar to talk to state representatives and senators about blindness issues.

SeniorsPlus announces yoga class

LEWISTON — Tisha Bremner will host a Gentle Morning Chair Yoga class for seniors from 9 to 10 a.m. Mondays until Nov. 9 at SeniorsPlus, 8 Falcon Road. There will be no class Oct. 12.

The class is designed to increase vitality, gain a deeper sense of balance and find your inner calm. It combines meditation, easy warm-ups, light stretches and gentle yoga postures. The cost is $8 per class on a drop-in basis.

On-farm composting program

MONMOUTH — University of Maine Cooperative Extension and University of Maine Animal and Veterinary Sciences will offer a free program about on-farm composting to manage animal disease and mortalities from 3:45 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at Highmoor Farm, 52 Route 202.

UMaine Extension professor Mark Hutchinson, associate professor Robert Causey and graduate student Alexandria Poulin will discuss effects of composting on equine pathogens and antibodies. A mortality composting demonstration will be included and there will be AVS student poster presentations about animal disease and parasite control.
