1920 – 2015

AUBURN — Rose T. Thurston, 95, of 440 Minot Ave., Auburn, died early Tuesday morning, Sept. 29, at Clover Manor Health Care Facility.

She was born in Auburn on March 15, 1920, the daughter of the late Fred and Alice (Vickery) Tufts and had been a resident of this community all of her life.

She was educated in Auburn schools and was a graduate of Edward Little High School, Class of 1938.

She had married Allan R. Thurston on June 29, 1946; and he died on April 10, 2009.

She was employed as a teacher for three years at Lake Street School and then for 15 years as director and teacher at the Court Street Baptist kindergarten school.

Rose served on several boards and committees at the Court Street Baptist Church where she was a member there for more than 62 years. She was also a member of the Purpose Club.

She enjoyed her family and family gatherings, camping, singing in the church choir and playing the piano. She enjoyed baking cakes for the Central Maine General Hospital coffee shop and knitting sweaters.

Rose touched many lives with her smile and her positive outlook on life. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by three daughters, Barbara Fisher of Greene, Peggy Vining and her husband, Mert, of Turner and Nancy Pomeroy and her husband, Reggie, of Hebron; one brother, Everett Tufts of Readfield; one grandson, Michael Pomeroy of Claremont, N.H.; two step-granddaughters, Kelly Vining of Corvallis, Ore., and Melissa Stundick of Maryland; two step-great-granddaughters, Taylor and Brady Stundick of Maryland; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, Richard and Kenneth Tufts.
