Community barbecue postponed
RUMFORD — The free community barbecue for the Rumford Community Home, scheduled for Oct. 3, is being postponed until further notice due to expected inclement weather.

Society to tour historic home
WATERFORD — The Waterford Historical Society will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, at an unusual time and for an unusual program — a tour of the home of Dan and Kathy Graney, across from the Bear Mountain Grange Hall in South Waterford
One of the older homes in town, it was known in the 19th Century as the Nathaniel Rounds home. Harry “Doc” Watson, beloved veterinarian and auctioneer, lived in it during the 20th Century, along with many others.
The Graneys will lead the tour and present research they have been doing.
The Society encourages members to be thinking about the November meeting and bring any artifacts, letters, pictures or memorabilia of the Civil War. The November meeting will be Nov. 12, a story-telling session.
AARP Chapter to meet
SOUTH PARIS — The Oxford Hills Chapter of AARP will meet at noon Monday, Oct. 12, at the First Congregational Church on East Main Street.
A macaroni and cheese lunch will be served. The cost is $7 and reservations are required by Friday, Oct. 9, by calling Ruth at 207-744-9069.
The business meeting will begin at 12:45 p.m. The program will be presented by Frank Perham who will talk about his extensive mineral collection.
Phillips hosting chicken supper
PHILLIPS — The Phillips Community of Christian Women will hold its annual supper from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9, at the Phillips Elementary School.
The menu includes roast chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, cranberry sauce, peas, squash, coleslaw, rolls, pies and beverages. The cost is $8 for adults and $5 for children younger than 12.

Grange to host ‘souper’
CHESTERVILLE — The Chesterville Grange will hold a public “souper” supper from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9.
Homemade soups, chowders and dessert will be served. The cost is $5 for adults and $2.50 for children.

Bicentennial Committee collecting recipes
KINGFIELD — The Kingfield Bicentennial Committee is collecting recipes for a commemorative cookbook.
Favorite recipe or recipes that have been handed down from past generations will be accepted. Stories of two or three lines may also be included.
Those interested should submit their recipes to Tranten’s or Tranten’s Too on Route 27 by Saturday, Oct. 10.
The cookbooks will be available for sale for the holiday season.

Daughters of Isabella meet
JAY — Daughters of Isabella 677 from St. Rose of Lima held its first monthly social after their summer break. It included an evening meal followed by a raffle. The evening came to a close around 8 p.m.
Ludden Memorial displaying crafters
DIXFIELD — Ludden Memorial Library, 40 Main St., will participate in “American Craft Week,” which takes place theFriday, Oct. 2, to Sunday, Oct. 11.
There will be a display of crafts by local crafters at the library all week.
