Orono residents are invited to the first meeting of a new Community Events Committee, which will meet at the town office at 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 8.

The decision to form the committee was made in part because of this year’s Festival Day, which was moved to the Asa C. Adams School from its previous location on Mill Street and was slimmed down from past years. That left some residents upset; at the same time, town staff had been left to carry much of the burden for this and other events, leading to some talk that more involvement was needed from members of the community.

The Oct. 8 meeting is a chance for residents  to help shape, plan, and execute community events such as Light up the Night and Orono Festival Day. Email belle@orono.org or call 207-889-6907 for more information.

Also this week, the Town of Orono and the Town of Veazie are hosting two Senior Citizen Forums to discuss community services and programs for our communities. The forums will take place on Tuesday, October 6 at 1 p.m. in the Orono Council Chambers and at 7 p.m, at the Veazie Community Center.
