AUBURN — City Council workshop and regular meeting in the City Council chambers on the second floor of Auburn Hall. The workshop begins at 5:30 p.m. and topics include junkyards, a tree inventory, plans for a crematorium, economic development and passenger rail. The regular meeting follows at 7 p.m. and topics include Great Falls TV, putting a school budget request on the Nov. 3 ballot, 

LEWISTON — School Committee, 6:45 p.m., Dingley Building. Agenda includes late-start arrival decision, second votes on new school site and educational plans.

LEWISTON — Mayoral debate, 6 p.m., Callahan Hall at Lewiston Public Library, hosted by the Sun Journal and Lewiston Public Library. Candidates are Ben Chin, Luke Jenson, Robert Macdonald, Stephen Morgan and Charles Soule. Live video feed at www.SunJournal.com.

LEWISTON — City Council regular meeting and workshop in the City Council Chamber, bottom floor City Hall. An executive session is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. to discuss a property tax abatement, followed by a 5:45 p.m. workshop to discuss regional economic development and zoning and land use codes for duplexes. The regular meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and topics include Great Falls TV, special amusement permits, property tax abatements and business license renewals.

WEDNESDAY, Oct. 7

AUBURN — School Committee, 7 p.m., City Council Chamber in Auburn Hall. On agenda: Edward Little High School early college options, Bridges program and offering Central Maine Community College credits to high school students. Also, student population report, creating an Auburn schools/business roundtable group.

AUBURN — Mayoral forum with incumbent Jonathan LaBonte, 6 p.m., Hilton Garden Inn. LaBonte’s challenger in the Nov. 3 election, Peter Letourneau, declined to debate.

AUBURN — Conversations: A Multi-Faith Perspective. Clergy of different faiths will hold round-table discussion of images and ideas in the Book of Genesis, 12:30-1:30 p.m., Auburn Public Library, the first Tuesday of the month through January.

AUBURN — Androscoggin County Budget Committee workshop, 6 p.m., Androscoggin County Courthouse.

AUBURN —  “Lizze Borden on Trial: Murder, Ethnicity, Gender,” a talk by Joseph Conforti on one of New England’s oldest and most famous trials, 6:30-7:30 p.m., Auburn Public Library.

FRIDAY, Oct. 9

AUBURN — “Hopeful Monsters: Absurd and Comic Tales of Life Among the Naked Apes,” stand-up comedy by Lynn Cullen, 6:30-7:30 p.m., Auburn Public Library.

SATURDAY, Oct. 10

LEWISTON — National Star Wars Read Day, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Callahan Hall in Lewiston Public Library. Browse hundreds of “Star Wars”-related books, make light sabers and Jedi robes. Art Walk representatives will provide free face painting. Attendees encouraged to come in costume. Free admission to all.
