Four local teams will be represented at the MPA’s Team Golf Championships this Saturday at Natanis Golf Course in Vasselboro. The state tournament will begin at 10 a.m.

The Lewiston Blue Devils are the lone local KVAC representative joining Messalonskee, Brunswick, Camden Hills and Mt Ararat as the other Class A North qualifiers. The Blue Devils won the KVAC Class A shootout at Rockland Country Club against Messalonskee and Brewer on Monday. They shot a team score of 161. Messalonskee shot a 172, while Brewer shot 185.

“We had a good score by Alex Robert, shooting a 39,” Lewiston coach Tom LeBlond said of Roberts performance at the shootout. “He played very well. I think he bogeyed the last three holes, too. He was even through six holes, so he played very well. Stephanie (Rodrigue) continues to play well. She was our low golfer on the day. She played well. She had two birdies, which was good. She birdied the first and ninth holes.”

Rodrigue shot a 38 on Monday.

The four other schools qualified on Tuesday at Natanis’ Arrowhead course.

Mt. View won the KVAC Class B shootout on Monday, with MCI, Gardiner, Erskine Academy and Lincoln Academy all qualifying on Tuesday at Natanis.

St. Dom’s won the MVC crown, defeating Dirigo 7-0 in semifinals and Winthrop 5-2 in the finals on Monday also at the Arrowhead course.

The Saints won the team medal against Winthrop, 174-177.

On Wednesday, Winthrop and Dirigo joined St. Dom’s as the MVC teams for the Class C tournament. Winthrop had a four golfers score of 347 and Dirigo was two shots behind them with a 349.

For Saints coach Michael Lacomte, it was nice to qualify on Monday as a team and not have to qualify Wednesday at the MVC qualifier.

“By having that locked up as far as of states goes, we can relax a little more if you will tomorrow and go out there and shoot low and qualify for the individuals,” Lacomte said.

They just did that as the Saints were the low team on Wednesday with a 325.

Lacomte also said winning Monday will also give him a chance on Wednesday to scout other teams for Saturday.

For Dirigo, it shot a little higher than it was expecting to on Wednesday, but the Cougars got the job done. They are excited to face other teams across the state.

“I am not sure who some of the teams across the state,” Dirigo coach Mike Kersey said. “Fortunately, we have been able to go down and play that course a few times. We feel pretty confident, and I think when we go down there on Saturday, we will play really well.”

Joining the five KVAC Class A schools will be Thornton Academy, Greely, Cheverus, Windham, Falmouth and Scarborough, which all qualified at the SMAA qualifier on Monday at Natanis’ Tomahawk course.

Also joining the MVC qualifiers for the Class C Tournament is Forest Hills, which won the East-West Conference Championship last Thursday at Lakewood Country Club with a score of 370. Valley shot a 420 and Rangeley a 472. NYA will be the WMC representative along with Mattanawcook Academy, Houlton, Penobscot Valley and George Stevens Academy, which qualified at the Penobscot Valley Conference qualifiers.

Old Town, Hermon and MDI all qualified for the Class B tournament at the PVC qualifier. Also joining the Class B State Tournament from the WMC are Cape Elizabeth, Fryeburg Academy, Lake Region and York.
