100 years ago, 1915
Batters (a sloping wall) for the Independent Ice Co.’s new building, Lewiston, at Barkerville on the stream, were being placed Monday. This house will be 120 by 30 feet and 40 feet high. The pond and stream have been cleared of refuse in preparation for ice cutting. It is estimated that 6,000 tons will be cut this winter.

50 years ago, 1965
A recommendation for a third bridge between Lewiston and Auburn will be included in the report of Wilbur Smith Associates, the consulting firm which has been conducting a transportation and land use study of the Lewiston-Auburn-Lisbon metropolitan area. Paul Conrad, one of the spokesmen for the consulting firm, acknowledged at the meeting that the final report will include such a recommendation because, based on preliminary data, “we know that we need additional trans-river traffic capacity.”

25 years ago, 1990
Kora Temple of Lewiston was one of 15 Shrine temples to participate in the Northeast Shrine Convention held recently in Hartford, Conn. The Kora Temple Arab Patrol Unit, which consists of a 24-member drill team and three officers, won two first-place trophies for their participation in the afternoon parade — one for best patrol unit and the other for best marching unit. Kora Temple will be the host of the 1991 Northeast Shrine Convention, which will be held in Portland.
