Any gardener with extra pumpkins, from 1 to 100, is welcome to drop them off at the garden by Monday, Oct. 19. We can arrange pick up for large numbers of pumpkins. Anyone who wishes to bring a carved pumpkin by Thursday, Oct. 22, will receive discounted admission.

Anyone who wants to join in on the carving fun may come at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, or make arrangements for a carving party at your convenience by calling the garden at 207-743-8820. Anyone who wants to see the amazing display is urged to come to this event. — Harriet Robinson, McLaughlin Garden volunteer.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have a couple of questions. Why is the puzzle page inside the back page on Monday instead of opposite Sun Spots page on every other day?

Can you tell me who pays FairPoint for printing the telephone book every year. Thanks. — No Name, No Town.

ANSWER: The puzzle page is printed inside the back page on Mondays instead of opposite the Sun Spots page because on Mondays the configuration of the paper is smaller. For example, the Encore section on Mondays doesn’t carry the usual entertainment news that it does Tuesday through Saturday — it is printed on one page instead of two, thus moving the puzzle page to the inside of the back page.

Sun Spots could not find a figure for the amount FairPoint Communications might pay Dex Media for the publication of its telephone books. There may be enough advertising in the yellow pages of these books to support the cost of printing. If you want to stop receiving future directories, visit yellowpagesoptout.com/. On the cover of the December 2014 directory was printed this note: “Future editions of this directory will not contain Residential White Pages listings. For 2015 and all future issues, the Residential White Pages will be available upon request. To order free Residential White Pages, call 877-2-GET-DEX.”

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Is it possible to get a copy of the Sept. 10, 1993,  sports section featuring William D. Koniak? Grew up together as brothers and would like to give a copy to my parents and his kids as a Christmas gift and something to remember him by. — Joe Z. via online submission form.

ANSWER: The Sun Journal does not have copies of issues dating back to 1993 for sale or copying. You can browse through the Sept. 10, 1993, special sports section at this link http://tinyurl.com/noa96zf/ which takes you to the first story in that section. You can view and print from microfilm copies at the Auburn and Lewiston public libraries.
