1931 – 2015

HARTFORD — Bernard E. Cowett, 84, of Hartford died Tuesday, Oct. 6, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.

He was born on Limestone on Jan. 30, 1931, the son of Linwood and Amelia (Rioux) Cowett and was educated in local schools. Bernard was a proud Marine veteran, having served during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion Post No. 58 of Buckfield.

He married the former Sandra Hines on Aug. 23, 1958, at Bretton Woods, N.H., and he worked as a truck driver many years and especially enjoyed his working time at Wainwright Farms in Canton.

Bernard is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sandra Cowett of Hartford; two sons, Cameron Cowett and his companion, Tina Davis, and Ian Cowett; one daughter, Cassandra Phillips and her husband, Rod, all of Hartford; two brothers, Alfred Cowett of Lincoln, and Ernest Cowett of Ashland; six grandchildren, Dyanna Jackson, Ashley Cowett, Zachery Cowett, Amy Phillips, Kayla Phillips and Kristen Phillips; and four great-grandchildren, Jayden Duff, Hunter Duff, Lylah Cowett and Landon Hall.

He was predeceased by three brothers, Robert, Arthur and Everett; and one sister, Claudette Christnot.
