LEWISTON — The Great Falls Forum on Thursday, Oct. 15, will feature Maine Public Radio’s award-winning reporters Susan Sharon, Mal Leary and Patty Wight.
Their presentation is titled, “From the Ebola Scare to Climate Change to Politics Under the Dome: Covering Daily News in Maine.”
The program will take place from noon to 1 p.m. in Callahan Hall at the Lewiston Public Library.
This past June, Sharon, Leary and Wight were invited to the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., to receive the prestigious Sigma Delta Chi Award from The Society of Professional Journalists for their multifaceted story involving Kaci Hickox, the Fort Kent nurse who treated Ebola patients in Africa.
The MPBN news team worked together to cover all aspects of the complex story, filing multiple pieces and conducting live interviews for NPR and other national and international media outlets.
In their forum talk, they will use the Hickox/Ebola story as an example of how they do their work, questioning authority and providing MPBN listeners with quality news and feature stories. In addition, they’ll be providing an inside look at how they develop their questions and plot which stories to tell.
The one-hour program will end with a question and answer session.
Admission is free to all forum events and no reservations are required. Bring a bag lunch. Coffee, tea and bottled water will be available at the library.
The Great Falls Forum is co-sponsored by Bates College, Lewiston Public Library and the Sun Journal.
The Lewiston Public Library is at 200 Lisbon St., at the corner of Pine Street.
