PORTLAND — Police say a Portland man armed with a handgun robbed a bank— the latest in a rash of eight bank robberies in the city since May.
Police say 58-year-old Francis Ready entered the Bangor Savings Bank branch at around noon Monday and demanded cash from tellers. Ready then allegedly fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. No one was hurt.
Ready was arrested and authorities say he is expected to be federally charged with bank robbery. He remains held at the Cumberland County Jail on federal detainment. It wasn’t immediately known if he had a lawyer.
This is the second armed bank robbery this month. Before that, Portland Police Chief Michael Sauschuck said investigators succeeded in arresting all responsible for the then-six bank robberies in the city since May.
