RUMFORD — Madre Sana, formerly known as Rosehips Midwifery, a home birth and well-woman care practice in Mexico, will soon open as an independent birth center at 435 Cumberland St. in Rumford.
The new center is on the first floor of an apartment building owned by co-founder and midwife Heather Carmody. It has undergone extensive renovations, including new flooring in several rooms and new cabinetry.
Madre Sana’s goal is providing safe alternatives in birth and education for all pregnant women, regardless of their ability to pay. The plan is to have 501(c)(3) status with the state of Maine by the end of the year.
An open house is planned for the first week in November.
