1923 – 2015

LEWISTON — Jacqueline P. Letendre, 91, formerly of 6 Tucker St., Lewiston, died Saturday, Oct. 17, at the d’Youville Pavilion in Lewiston, where she had been a resident for the past year.

Born in Lewiston on Oct. 21, 1923, she was the daughter of Senator Jean C. and Carmelle Grenier Boucher. She was educated at Holy Family School and Lewiston High School, graduated from Bates College in 1956, and then went to graduate school at Bryn Mawr and Simmons colleges, earning a master’s degree.

She worked for many years as a social worker, starting at the Department of Human Services offices in Lewiston, and then in Boston at the International Adoption Agency. She eventually returned to Lewiston and, with Dorothy Morrissette, started the Social Work Department at St. Mary’s Hospital. She also worked for Catholic Charities, and finished her career as the supervisor of the DHS office in Lewiston.

On April 20, 1974, she married Benoit Letendre, who passed in 2007. A member of Holy Family Church, Prince of Peace Parish, she is survived by a brother, Roger R. Boucher and wife, Joan, of McLean, Va.; a sister, Helene L’Heureux of Winthrop; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
