PARIS — On Wednesday, Oct. 14 the Oxford Hills Vikings junior varsity field hockey team took to the field to battle the lady Huskies of Gould Academy, with the Vikings falling to the Huskies.

The well-oiled offensive front line of Gould, with its strong stick handling and accurate passing proved too much for the lady Vikings to handle, as Gould came away with a 5-1 victory.

Gould controlled the ball right out of the gate, keeping the ball on its side of the field for pretty much all of the first half. A goal at the 13:44 mark of the first half would make it 1-0 Gould.

With just 1:05 left in the first half, Oxford Hills finally brought the ball under control at its own end of the field where a foul by Gould would lead to a penalty stroke and the only goal of the game for Oxford Hills by freshman Jessica Bickford. Bickford snuck a great shot by the left side of the Gould goalie to tie the contest for her team.

The Vikings were also assisted by the strong midfield play of Erin Eastman in being able to keep the game tight with a 1-1 tie at the half. This would continue for the first 10 minutes of the second half as Oxford Hills and Gould would trade control back and forth at center field.

From there, Gould would catch fire and answer back with four straight unanswered goals. Two of these goals would happen just a minute apart in the last 12 minutes of the game. The fourth and final goal happened with 6:16 remaining.

During the last five minutes of the game, the Vikings tried to battle back by gaining control against a tired Gould squad. While they were able to muster up multiple goal shots as the final minutes ticked away, none of them led to any further scoring by the lady Vikings.
