LIVERMORE FALLS — With days are growing colder and shorter, Treat Memorial Library suggests curling up with a good book! And it will host plenty of activities to keep busy in November.
Treat will take part in the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program. This is a self-paced program that anyone can begin with their child from birth to before he or she enters kindergarten. The rewards of reading to children are many, from bonding time to encouraging early literacy. The program is simple: Parents and caregivers read to their child and keep track of any titles that they read. Tracking sheets for the program will be available at the library.
Preschool Story Time will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays, Nov. 4, 18 and 25, and include stories, songs, activities and crafts. There will be no Story Time Nov. 11 because the library will be closed in observance of Veteran’s Day.
The library will hold a bottle drive Friday and Saturday, Nov. 6 and 7. Residents who’d like to donate bottles and even have the bottles picked up from them may contact the library to arrange to have someone come pick them up. Bottles may also be dropped off at the library during regular hours. Donations help benefit the library.
Due to Thanksgiving, Teen Writers will meet only once this month at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12. All local teens interested in writing are encouraged to join this group. Each member receives a journal full of writing prompts. The goal of the group is to improve as writers through support and encouragement and to just have a place to be creative and write.
The Magic and Mystery book series continues at 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, as the book club discusses “The Girl Who Chased the Moon” by Sarah Addison Allen. Allen describes her style as “Southern-fried magical realism.” Those interested in joining the group of readers may let the library know, and a copy of the book will be set aside.
The Knit/Crochet group will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24. There will be teachers and materials available for those who would like to learn how to knit or crochet and it’s a place to show and discuss latest projects.
The library will be closed Wednesday, Nov. 11 in observance of Veterans day and on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 26 and 27, for Thanksgiving.
The activities calendar can be picked up at the Circulation Desk, and card holders may log in to their own accounts to access the Download Library through the online catalog (Clicking on “See what’s hot” will show a list of new items).
