PORTLAND — A Standish man was arrested Saturday and charged with murder in connection with the death of his 3 ½-month-old son, according to the Maine State Police.

Eugene “Charlie” Martineau, 24, was taken to the Cumberland County Jail, Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the state police, said in a news release.

Martineau’s son, Leo Josephs, died Saturday at Maine Medical Center in Portland, McCausland said.

The boy and his twin sister were born prematurely, he said. The girl has not yet been released from the neo-natal unit at the hospital.

The infant boy was brought to the hospital Wednesday with multiple injuries, McCausland said. An autopsy is scheduled to be performed Sunday or Monday at the State Medical Examiners Office.

Martineau is scheduled to make his first court appearance on the murder charge Monday at the Cumberland County Superior Court.

If convicted of murder, he faces between 25 years and life in prison.
