1939 – 2015

LEWISTON — Leslie B. Titcomb, 76, died in his sleep Saturday morning, Oct. 24, at Marshwood Nursing Care Center in Lewiston.

He was born July 29, 1939, in Biddeford, a son of Leslie Burton and Elizabeth Cornish Titcomb. He graduated from Norwell High School in Massachusetts in 1957 and served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960. He also was a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, earning his Bachelor of Arts in English with the Class of 1965. He then moved to the Chicago area where he studied Shakespearean acting for a few more years playing such roles as Marc Antony in “Julius Caesar” and taking various other acting roles which included summer stock. His musical talent led to such roles as Captain Von Trapp in “The Sound of Music.” He wrote his own songs. For many years, he played those and other songs on his guitar, which he played by ear.

He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Yarmouth and Auburn for over 20 years, retiring in 2006. He held a lifelong interest in history, specifically the Civil War to which he made several trips to visit Gettysburg and other battlefields. His love for U.S. history was evident in the literature he read such as “Killer Angels” by Shaara and other Shaara books which he shared with his family and friends. He also spent some time in the Bowdoin Historical Society as treasurer.

In l976, he returned to Maine to help his family and ended up becoming an active Christian in 1979. He then spent the rest of his life endeavoring to minister God’s Word and his love to family and friends, having been ordained through Christian Faith International Ministries. He oversaw a home fellowship for over 30 years. It was through this fellowship that he and his wife, Leanne Gray, were brought together and were married in Portland on Feb. 13, 1988, spending a wonderful 27 plus years of marriage.

He is survived by his wife, Leanne Titcomb, of Bowdoin; a son, Alex Titcomb and his wife, Hilary, of West Gardiner; and his precious granddaughter, Annah Grace Titcomb.

He is predeceased by his parents; and a brother, David Titcomb.
