1923 – 2015
RUMFORD — Gerald “Gerry” Gallant, 92, formerly of Osgood Avenue in Mexico, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 1, at Rumford Community Home following a long illness.
He was born in Rumford on July 6, 1923, a son of Albany and Josephine (Doucette) Gallant.
Gerry was educated in Mexico and Rumford schools and was a graduate of Mexico High School, Class of 1941.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II in Okinawa and Guadalcanal.
Gerry married Ardella (Fuller) on May 20, 1946; together they celebrated 64 years of marriage, she passed away on Nov. 24, 2010.
He was employed as a pipefitter with Oxford Paper Company for over 40 years. Gerry was a communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. Gerry loved gardening and fishing and was an avid bowler in his younger years.
Surviving are his two sons, David G. Gallant of Rumford, Chris Gallant and wife, Joanne, of Turner; two daughters, Colleen Kirksey and husband, David, of Weld, and Joann Pillsbury of Winthrop; a sister, Anne Sawchuk and husband, Bill, of Ontario, Canada; two brothers, William Gallant and wife, Mary, of West Peru, and Alfred Gallant and wife, Colleen, of Orlando, Fla.; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Ardella; and six brothers, Joseph, Hayden, Raymond, Richard, Robert and James.
