1924 – 2015

LEWISTON — Gertrude T. Miller, 91, of Bridgton, formerly of New Gloucester, died early Thursday morning, Nov. 5, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

She was born on May 18, 1924, in Lewiston, a daughter of Joseph A. and Celina (Lagasse) Jean. She attended local schools including Holy Cross Parochial School and Lewiston High School, graduating in 1943.

As a young woman, Gert worked for 18 years at the Golden Heart Bakery in Auburn in the shipping room. She later worked for the state of Maine as a CNA at the Pownal institution for more than 32 years.

She was a very skilled craftswoman and enjoyed sharing her work of knitting, crocheting, needlepoint on plastic canvas and shell craft at craft shows all over New England and in her shop in New Gloucester. In her craft show travels, she met and later married Donald E. Miller on Dec. 29, 1990. They opened the Wee Gift shop out of their home in Bridgton in 1991 and continued to enjoy the crafting circuit.

She enjoyed traveling with her loved ones all over the world, including trips to Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Europe and her favorite place Hawaii several times. Summers were often spent in Waterford at Keoka Lake. One of Gert’s favorite simple pastimes was going out to eat.
