AUBURN — Saint Dominic Academy held a special prayer service in honor of All Souls Day, which was planned and led by the student assistant chaplains.
Students, parents, faculty and staff had the opportunity to light a candle in memory of departed loved ones.
Following the service, Principal Joline Girouard shared a recent experience with the passing of Frederic Leblond, Class of 1945, a long-time family friend. Leblond was a part of the first graduating class of St. Dom’s before he went on to join the Army Air Corps during World War II. His funeral was a traditional military funeral with a folded flag given to the family. The family gave the flag to Girouard with the instructions that Leblond wanted St. Dom’s to have it and to fly it with pride.
“This was a very moving prayer service today,” said President Donald Fournier. “The engagement of the students and Mrs. Girouard’s message rings true of our family atmosphere.”
In honor of Veterans Day, Leblond’s flag will be raised at the Auburn Campus. Girouard has invited Leblond’s family to join veterans, four St. Dom’s Eagle Scouts and the entire student body in the flag raising after Mass at 8:55 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 12.
