AUBURN — His face has launched a thousand laughs. Johnny Ater, one of Maine’s favorite comedians, headlines Maine Event Comedy at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, at Sapphire, (formerly Club Texas), 150 Center St., Auburn . The show will also feature Tuck Tucker, Paul Landwehr, Kevin Neales and host, Mark Turcotte.
Whether he is taking light-hearted swipes at himself and his fellow Mainers or contorting his face into hilarious characters, Ater has left audiences laughing throughout New England and beyond since 2003. He has performed at the Punchline in San Francisco and is the resident host of the Maine Comedy Festival. Ater has also appeared on “The Nite Show with Danny Cashman” and recently spearheaded a fundraising show for the Bath Food Pantry.
Tucker, a founding member of Portland’s Running with Scissors improv group, was a finalist on HBO’s Lucky 21 Comedy Showcase in New York City. He has performed at the Funnybone in Hartford, Conn., and the Comedy Connection in Boston and Providence.
Vulnerable and honest, Landwehr was voted one of New Hampshire’s Best Local Comedians by the Hippo Press for the second straight year. He’s performed at the Central New York Playhouse in Syracuse, N.Y., and Comix at Foxwoods.
Neales has worn a hat while slinging jokes at Boston’s Comedy Studio, the Maine Comedy Festival and The Ice House in Pasadena,Calif.
Turcotte founded the Comedy Fix fundraising series and was recently selected to participate in this year’s Boston, Cleveland and North Carolina Comedy festivals.
Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door and may be purchased at: maineeventcomedy.com. Seating is general admission and doors open at 7 p.m. The show is for ages 21 and older.
