The Ariel club of Lewiston is bringing to city hall on the evening of Nov 29, one of the largest cabaret entertainments that has ever been brought to Maine. Not only are the attractions the liveliest and best that Boston affords but the variety of entertainment will give to this second annual ladies’ night a program which will appeal to those who dance and to those who prefer to watch. One of the best attractions will be the Fandell’s Tango Banjo orchestra composed of seven pieces. A. J Sweet, chairman of the committee in charge of the event heard this orchestra play one evening this week at Elks hall in Cambridge and he states that it is by far the best novelty orchestra which he has ever heard.

City workers in Auburn might face layoffs and residents could see cutbacks in municipal services if an apparent budget mess continues to worsen, a number of officials said Monday. During a meeting of the City Council, Mayor Richard L. Trafton said the city faced a “possible shortfall” in revenues and called for a special council work session next month to discuss “scaling back services in city government, perhaps layoffs.”
