Mystery photo for November 22, 2015
There were only a few correct entries for last week’s mystery photo. In a random drawing, Joel Haslett of Oxford was chosen as the winner of a $10 Subway gift card. He said that he was very familiar with the tower, as he drove past it many times while working for the telephone company. “In fact, I walked right under it when stringing phone cable to the water station,” he wrote. The iconic water tower is in the center of Canton, next to a new park near where a tannery and mill once stood. According to Scotty Kilbreth, Canton town official, the tower was installed long ago and provided fire protection to the tannery. He also mentioned that the worn out flag in the photo is not the responsibility of the town but has been taken down.
