AUBURN — The Auburn Public Library has announced its list of activities for kids for the month of December.
Tweens in the Teen Space — Tweens may come by the teen space from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesdays, Dec. 2, 9 and 16, and get a head start on homework, do crafts, play board games or simply hang out. This program is just for Tweens who are in sixth grade.
Teen Anime Club — Teens, ages 12 to 18, can drop in from 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, in the Androscoggin Community Room to talk about manga, the week’s selection of anime, and try their hand at drawing characters. This program was made possible by a generous gift of the P&G Fund of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation. Snacks will be provided.
Teens! Friday @ the Movies — Teens can relax after a long week and watch “Christmas with the Kranks,” a comedy based on John Grisham’s novel, “Skipping Christmas.” The library will air the movie at 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, in the Androscoggin Community Room. There will also be seasonal snacks. The movie is for teens ages 12 to 18.
Teens! Snack Chat! — Teens, ages 12 to 18, may engage in some enlightening conversation about current events and eat a light snake from 3 to 4 p.m. Mondays, Dec. 7 and 21, in the Teen Space. As the series continues, guest speakers to further add to the conversations. This program is provided by support from Jim Pittma.
Futures Lab — This new program for students — teens and adults — who are working on post-secondary aspirations is set from 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays, Dec. 7 and 14, in the Computer Lab. Whether a student is just starting a college search, completing online applications or working on financial aid paperwork, there will be a college navigator and/or a representative from College for Maine Androscoggin on hand to answer questions .
Gaming Hour — Teens, ages 12 to 18, can play video games and eat snacks from 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesdays, Dec. 9 and 30, in the Androscoggin Room on the lower level. The library has an XBox and Wii, and teens can play games rated teen and younger. This program was made possible by a generous gift of the P&G Fund of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation.
Safe Voices — Julia from Safe Voices will visit teens at the library from 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, in the Teen Space. She will chat about relationships and work on projects. This is just for teens, ages 12 to 18.
Maine Job Corps — Wednesday, December 16 10:00-11:00 AM in the Conference Room
Teens and New Adults! If you had the opportunity to take part in a life-changing experience that gave you the skills you need to succeed in today’s job market, and it didn’t cost anything, would you be interested? If so, the Job Corps may be for you! Join us today when Jill Moody of the Maine Job Corps visits to explain how the program works and who is eligible.
Teens! DIY Takeover — Each month, the library features a different DIY project. This month, from 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, in the Teen Space, teens, ages 12 to 18, can make holiday cards for residents of a local retirement community along with other seasonal crafts. Snacks will be provided.
Teens! Flashback Friday — The library will feature childhood activities during the third-Friday event from 4 to 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, in the teen space. Activities will include Legos, Play Doh, puzzles and Candyland. The snacks will also be childhood favorites. This is for teens, ages 12 to 18.
DIY Teens! Media Club — Movies! Music! Graphic arts! If a teen can imagine it, they can create it in our Media Lab. Teens, ages 12 to 18, can join the Media Club to make trailers, podcasts and more that that the library will post on its website. The lab will be open from 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23, in the CREATE! Media Lab.
Coming up in January 2016, APL’s Teen Life Skills series continues, featuring Healthy Androscoggin from 3 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, and “An Introduction to Yoga for Teens” presented by Tisha Bremner of Inner Light Yoga from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m. on Tuesdays, Jan. 12, 19 and 26.
